SEO Basics: Starter Guide| Global-SEO-24

SEO is the practice of optimizing your website for search engines. Search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo use algorithms to determine which sites are most relevant to a user's search query. The better you optimize your site, the higher it will appear on search engine results pages (SERPs).

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the process of increasing your website's visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs). SEO may be done by an individual or a company.

SEO can have a significant impact on business success. A study by Conductor found that content with a high number of links from other sites (editorial links) has an average rank of 2.3 on Google's first page. Content with low numbers of links from other sites (content links) has an average rank of 12.5 on Google's first page.

SEO basics

Types of SEO

There are total 12 different types of SEO:

White-Hat SEO

The most commonly recognized type of SEO, white-hat is the safest and most ethical way to optimize your website. It’s also the most difficult to master. White-hat SEO makes sure that your website is fully optimized for search engines by following all of their guidelines, including:

Building high-quality content that answers questions or solves problems for your audience (i.e., “How-to” posts)

Paying attention to site structure so that Google can easily crawl, index and rank your pages

Using keywords in a natural way that makes sense for your audience and topic

Black-Hat SEO

This type Black Hat method involves using techniques that are not approved by Google such as cloaking, spamming links, etc. It makes use of hidden text or hidden keywords in order to get better rankings in SERPs than what you would normally deserve according to the quality of your website content and other factors such as backlinks and social media engagement.

Gray-Hat SEO

Gray hat SEO falls somewhere between white hat and black hat practices and includes using methods that aren't directly against Google's rules but aren't necessarily in their best interests either, such as cloaking pages or keyword stuffing without being obvious about it. Many gray hat techniques are used by legitimate businesses in order to get ahead of their competitors who are using these same tactics but not advertising them publicly as much as they should be doing so.

On-page SEO

On-page SEO refers to any changes you make directly on the website or blog itself. Examples include keyword research for content creation, keyword research for titles and meta descriptions and making sure that all of your pages have good internal links pointing to other relevant pages on your website.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO refers to any external factors that affect your search engine ranking. Examples include creating relevant backlinks from other websites (known as link building), getting high-quality comments on other blogs or forums and establishing social media profiles so that people can find you easily when they search for related topics online

Technical SEO

This involves making sure your website is search engine friendly so it can be crawled and indexed properly by search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. Technical SEO includes things like ensuring your website loads fast, has a robots.txt file and schema markups on each page.

International SEO

This type of SEO focuses on helping businesses reach users outside their home country, while still maintaining relevance within their home market. International SEO can help businesses expand globally without having to rework their marketing efforts or website infrastructure.

Local SEO

This type of SEO helps businesses get found by people within their area who are looking for services or products in their area. For example, if you own an accounting firm, your target audience may be small business owners in your city or state. Local SEO will help these potential clients find you when they search for an accountant in their area.

Ecommerce SEO

Ecommerce websites need to be optimized for search in order to drive more sales. For example, if someone searches for “red sneakers” on Google, your website should be one of the top results. You can also optimize your online store for shopping sites like Amazon or eBay by adding structured data markup and schema markup to your product pages so they display properly in the SERPs.

Mobile SEO

Mobile SEO is the process of optimizing your website for mobile devices. Mobile devices are increasingly popular, and Google has already announced that it will be penalizing websites that do not provide a mobile-friendly user experience.

A key component of mobile optimization is to make sure your pages are responsive, or "mobile-friendly." This means that the content on the page will resize itself so it fits within the width of a mobile device's screen.

At End Point
